‘You Can Have Both’ Launch

29th May, 2020

Brisbane based entrepreneur, multiple business owner and father of 3, Dan Cross successfully launched his new venture this week. You Can Have Both is an online community for business owners who are balancing their families, their relationship with their significant other as well as a meaningful relationship with themselves. Cross has aptly named these four areas of life, ‘The Core 4’. Cross said that by creating a successful: I (relationship with yourself), We (relationship with your partner) & Us (relationship with your kids) people are able to feed exponential success into their business, making up the final part of ‘The Core 4’: It (a healthy and balanced relationship with your business).

Dan launched YCHB after 10 years of running multiple businesses and seeing the same unfortunate ‘trends’ with those who identified as entrepreneurs: sky high divorce rates, unhappy entrepreneurs, broken families, a decline in the mental health of business owners and people who were no longer thriving in the area that consumed almost 90% of their lives. Not only did Dan notice these trends, he experienced some of them first hand with his partner Megan and their young daughter, Nala. Their lives were seemingly happy with an extravagant house, money in the bank but what they lacked was far more important. They were missing substance that made a happy family truly happy: memories that mattered more than the minutes spent at home.

Very nearly losing it all Dan set out to create ways to make enough change in his life so he didn’t fall into the same trap so many other ambitious entrepreneurs had.

Fast forward 6 years, 2 more children and a lot of time to learn, Dan and his family feel like they’re in a prime position to share their story on how they have it all.

Cross revealed the concept of the community came about quite organically, “We realised that “both” was just a metaphor for ‘The Core 4’ and that most people were only succeeding in 1-2 areas of their life, the idea of succeeding in all 4 seemed impossible to those around us. Knowing this made me realise that we were not alone in our challenges and so the “You Can Have Both” movement started to manifest. First it was a thought, what if I could turn my hindsight into other people’s foresight? How many people could we help? How many marriages and relationships could we save? So I asked Megan, what if we taught people some of the things we do as a family? What if we simply shared our story, our mistakes and the new rules that took our lives to the next level?”

Evidently his growing audience were glad that the pair decided to open up their home-life and share their journey. Their launch has grown their community to over 50 members, generated enough revenue for the pair to fund a Scholarship Program giving a deserving member of the public a 12 month enrollment to the school, for free.

Dan has set the community up in a systemised way where each module tackles a new element of the business/family tug-of-war. The lessons sit in the student’s dashboard where they are able to complete lessons digitally, download tools and create change within their lives at a pace that suits their lifestyle.

YCHB lessons cover a variety of topics for entrepreneurs, parents, partners and successful individuals. Here are some of the lessons you can expect to walk away with as a member of the community:

  • The missing link in your mindset for having both

  • The business structure that sets you free

  • Efficiency hacks that will give you more by doing less

  • Strategies for planning 'The Core 4'

  • Communication techniques for a working relationship

  • Defined family values and vision

  • Learning the entrepreneurial strengths that are killing your relationship

  • The rules that govern success regardless of circumstances

  • Forecasting tools to help you navigate and avoid poor decisions

  • Wealth principles to shift your lifestyle

  • Tools that dramatically benefit your productivity

  • Strategies to teach your kids about money and entrepreneurship

  • New revenue streams to your business

  • The tools that help you say 'yes' in the situations that matter

‘You Can Have Both’ is currently open for enrolment. When asked what his goal for the school was, Cross said, “My goal is to influence a new family every day for 365 days through my platform. Giving back to the community is really important to me and something I was on the receiving end of a lot growing up. I will continue to do my part to change the stigma that says ‘you can’t have both’ while being an evolving example of someone who lives their life intentionally and happily through The Core 4.”
